| New Years Eve (Hydra 2001) |
![]() On New Years Eve we decide to have dinner at one of the cafés down in the port. We have seen a lot of Greeks eat there in the winter and when we enter it's crowded with Greeks and a great atmosphere but they play really loud music, not Greek music but The Hollies and Shirley Bassey from the sixties. We decide to stay but when we order we let the waiter know that it's almost impossible to talk because the music's so loud. He just smiles and brings us our cold Greek beer. We have a nice dinner and the Mythos beer is wonderful. I help my young son to the restroom and when I am there with him I hear "Ferry Cross The Mersey" with Gerry and the Pacemakers. When we return to our table I tell my wife I might ask them to play that once more, it's such a classic song from my teenage days. My wife looks at me like she thinks I am joking but I am serious - and if someone turns down the volume I will be very upset. |
