| Jimmy Cobb at The Village Gate |
![]() Of all the great musicians from the Kind of Blue recording in 1959, only Jimmy Cobb is still alive. I saw him at The Village Gate in New York in 1992 and I have a vague memory of him being a tough and mean drummer, not with the soft touch he had on the Miles Davis album. I recently found a box of old stuff from when I lived in NY and there was a notebook with two sketches I made of Jimmy Cobb at The Village Gate. On one of the drawings it said "Mean Jimmy Cobb" and I had made horns on his head. I remember seeing Elvin Jones once and he was a mean drummer, but always smiling. This mean drummer looked evil - but perhaps it was just something he said at the gig or me being drunk, late at The Village Gate. Maybe he is a kind man in the daytime.
